Singapore vs the World (Malaysia)

I was getting advice from with a European who has been in Singapore for nine years and married a Singaporean (so isn't moving).  My comment/question was:
“It seems to me that Malaysians seem to have an inferiority complex about Singapore?”
His response
“I think it is more that Singaporeans have a superiority complex”
We agreed it was two sides of the same coin and then he went on to explain.

Singapore is a city and probably runs better than better and more efficiently than any country in the world.  US, Europe, anywhere.  But when you travel from Singapore to other parts of the world, it’s a long trip and you don’t compare how Singapore works with other parts of the world.  You can drive to Malaysia and the two countries have a mutual history.  When something doesn’t work as efficiently as possible in Malaysia, like other places in the world, a Singaporean’s response is “Malaysia, what do you expect …..”

Personally we have found we like a little chaos – Singapore is too controlled; Bangkok or Jakarta to wild -> KL is just right.  I need some opportunities to keep my corner cutting skills in practice and find creative solutions.  Also, KL is lots...... cheaper – especially once you get outside the Western/ex-pat bubble.
