Pangkor Island (Palau) is on the west coast of Peninsula Malaysia. It is a major tourist spot during the rainy season on the east coast of Peninsula Malaysia and East Malaysia (Nov - Feb) and during school holidays as it is between Kuala Lumpur and Penang almost due west of Ipoh (so the three largest Malaysian cities are all within a couple hours driving distance).
Jess, Janet and I went in middle May, as luck would have it a week before school break. So, everything was ready for the crowds but there weren't any crowds. Other than some Malay tour groups, it seemed as as if the island had more beach boys and taxi drivers than tourists.
This is an outline of how nice it can be to have your own private island
Pictures of Pasir Bogak are on the depressing day 1 adventures http://heathmy.blogspot.com/2011/07/losing-first-two-sets-pangkor-island.html
These pictures are from the beaches north of Pasir Bogak and most of the beaches pictured here are from Teluk Nipah area beaches.
This is what we were promised from the tourist websites
Most of these people are beach boys or folks "raking" the beaches - we honestly didn't see any other tourists on the beaches
You could take a boat ride out snorkeling, fishing or go to smaller uninhabited islands. We didn't have time this trip but next time ........
Perfect tree to beat the heat and stretch your back
Or exercise and do crunches
Camp for beach boys
Rocks north edge of Teluk Nipah beach
How much do you think the tourist board would pay for this photo?????
Close up of the rocks
Hanging out with big sister
Without people
A diver!!!!
Much more relaxing when there is no need to battle the crowds
Stressful life
Much better view than on the swing set at home
What happens when you are ready for a crowd and no one show ups?
A few other assorted beach related photos from other parts of the Palau
A resort 3/4 of the way to the north end of the island on the west side.
Beach kids hanging out while mom was sweeping the beach (truth).
Better than looking for shellfish.
Island in Coral Bay - you can swim here or get a ride
A few other tourists all bright orange with life vests
Another beach - we could have each had our own personal private beach.
More resorts north of Coral Bay
We were spoiled and so now won't be able to visit during the crowded season. It wasn't planned that way but it's better to be lucky than good (best of all is both)
Adventure continues
